Our 2007 programme included research, roundtables and masterclasses that continued to focus on providing deeper understanding of the link between rewards and performance.

We continued to adopt a wider view of the economic and human resource environment within which organisations operate.

How Pay Really Helps Businesses Succeed

Our first Masterclass of the year explored how businesses can provide a personal context to individuals which encourages them to perform more effectively. With the help of new research from Pat Zingheim and Jay Schuster, two leading exponents of contemporary remuneration thinking, we examined how an integrated approach to rewards and incentives – combining compensation, benefits and intangible considerations such as recognition – can incentivise staff and improve the retention of talent.

Rethinking Retirement II

Continuing our earlier work on 'reinventing retirement', we focused on the employers' role in establishing novel approaches to employee wealth creation. We used a range of company case studies to examine employer initiatives beyond the traditional pension model. Our research focused on generating practical outputs for use by members.

As part of a major research study undertaken with our associate CRF, PARC examined the processes and practices that organisations need to embed to ensure they can and do work smoothly on a global basis. This strand of our work, led by Professor George Yip, builds on our 2006 exploration of global business developments and the implications for businesses operating in Asia.

Measures of Organisational Sustainability

Our final research project for 2007 examined how organisations can establish and sustain high performance within a variety of business contexts. This work was based on a literature review and original research, including in-depth case studies. It gave members an opportunity to explore the practical actions that boards and senior executives need to take to improve and sustain high performance.
